Brief

Move away from the overdone shabby chic aesthetic and create a layout that feels elevated, calming, and perfectly relatable. Their audience—real women juggling work-life balance—needed a magazine that spoke to them, not at them. The design had to inspire while staying grounded in the realities of everyday life.

Open magazine showing two people on phone calls, one outdoors with headphones and a backpack, another woman standing by a window. Text on the pages discusses flexible work spaces and supportive management.

The Solution

This project wasn’t about creating something flashy—it was about keeping it real while turning up the sophistication. Together, we crafted a layout that feels polished but approachable, featuring:

Clean, Minimalist Design: Ample white space and carefully chosen typography create a sense of calm and let the content shine.

Authentic Imagery: Photos of real humans—not models—keep the magazine relatable and reflect the audience’s own lives.

Muted Earth Tone Palette: Subdued colors set the tone for balance and introspection, perfectly aligning with the magazine’s mission.

Magazine pages featuring articles on work-life balance with images of a woman working at home and a couple relaxing on a rug.

The Results

From the first flip, the new design invites readers to slow down, reflect, and feel inspired—not overwhelmed—by the stories and ideas within.

With a refreshed layout, In Her Studio Magazine now feels as intentional as its content. The clean design and relatable visuals help readers connect on a deeper level, making the magazine a source of both inspiration and calm in their busy lives.

Open magazine on a textured surface, featuring an article about work-life balance with the title "Here are eight ways to create a better work-life balance, as well as how to be a supportive manager." The left page shows a woman standing by a window with a laptop. The right page contains text and a photo of a cozy interior with a striped rug and chair.

Key Takeaways

• Grounded in Reality: Authentic imagery keeps the content relatable and impactful.

• Design That Breathes: White space and clean typography create a layout that feels calm and organized.
